Rabbit Hole — Dinner, Oysters and a Secret Behind the Wall
Every city keeps a few secrets; Ottawa keeps one behind a vintage elevator door on the Sparks Street pedestrian mall. Rabbit Hole pairs a heritage-building cocktail bar and dining room with The Jackalope — a hidden speakeasy where drinks are composed personally for each guest — plus a tropical rooftop for summer and a patio on the promenade. It is the city’s most complete evening under one 130-year-old roof.
The Story
Since opening in 2018, Rabbit Hole has leaned into its bones: exposed stone, low light and red velvet that flatter both the architecture and the guests. The formula — “where history meets the glass” — treats the heritage room not as a backdrop but as a co-author of the atmosphere.
What to Order
Begin with fresh oysters — the midweek oyster evenings are a local ritual — then move to the pizzas, the Red 6 and White 4 both have loyalists, or the wagyu burger for something richer. Charcuterie boards carry the grazing table, and the cocktail list changes with the seasons. In The Jackalope, the bartender interviews your palate and answers with a bespoke drink.
The Space
Downstairs is candlelight and stone, booths built for two and ceilings scattered with starlight; the Sneaki Tiki rooftop swaps velvet for palms and rum; the summer patio opens onto the pedestrian promenade. Three moods, one address.
Who It’s For
Couples engineering an anniversary with a surprise act, friends who want dinner to become a night, and out-of-town guests you’re trying to convince that the capital knows how to have fun.
Good to Know
Do I need to book? For The Jackalope, always — it is reservation-only and 19+; the main room takes walk-ins outside peak hours.
What’s the ideal evening here? Oysters and pizza downstairs, then a bespoke nightcap in the speakeasy.
Is it couple-friendly? Extremely — the booths and the hidden-bar reveal make it a date-night specialist.
What about a summer visit? Aim for the Sneaki Tiki rooftop or the promenade patio while the weather holds.
Is there entertainment? Weekend DJs from late evening, with a smart dress code to match.

It was our first time here, and we really loved their pizza (and the mocktail)! My boyfriend and I rarely go out for dinner, because I'm a restaurant cook and I also love cooking at home. But one Thursday evening we deci…
This is an amazing place. The food was so delicious. The oysters were so fresh, the pizza was well made, and the boneless beef was so juicy. The staff was respectful, friendly, and professional. If anyone asks me for the…
Ordered the "Red 2," the crab cakes, and the red berry mousse cake.
Great food, great atmosphere. Everything was delicious. The service was a little slow, but I'm guessing they were short 1-2 staff given how many custome…
A wonderful, iconic spot 🙂 thanks for the hospitality and the good vibes
I was hitting bars in Montreal with my family, and this was our first stop. We really loved the atmosphere. I ordered a cocktail called the "Bad Bunny," kind of like a margarita, and it was very tasty. We ordered fries a…
